This video examines causes of Vitamin D deficiency!
Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. The funny thing about vitamin D is that it behaves differently to other vitamins. In fact it is NOT really a vitamin, but rather a steroid hormone. Its chemical structure is derived from cholesterol and has similarities to sex and adrenal hormones.

Today I want to cover the warning signs of a vitamin D deficiency. However, it’s important to remember that a warning sign or symptom isn’t the real problem—it’s an indicator of the real problem.

Seven warning signs of a vitamin D deficiency:
1. High blood pressure
2. Low back pain
3. High blood sugar
4. High susceptibility to viruses
5. Autoimmune conditions
6. Daytime sleepiness
7. Depression

Let’s say you’re doing everything right, and you’re still deficient in vitamin D. There are a few reasons why this could happen.

Top causes of a vitamin D deficiency (when you’re already getting vitamin D):
• Polymorphism (a vitamin D receptor mutation)
• You’re still not getting enough vitamin D (you need at least 10,000 IU)
• You have a problem with absorption (due to low zinc, low magnesium, a liver problem, a kidney problem, darker skin, or being overweight)

When you take a vitamin D supplement, you also need to take vitamin K2. The correct ratio is 10,000 IU of D3 to 100 mcg of K2. Vitamin K2 can help drive calcium into the bones and help prevent it from depositing in the arteries, joints, and other tissues.

7 Signs Of Vitamin D Deficiency

diseases No Comments »

Warning signs of vitamin D deficiency that everyone should know, and sources of Vitamin D.

#Health #VitaminD #VitaminDDeficiency

Music:
https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music

Summary:
Did you know that before the year 2000, most doctors believed that none of their patients could be vitamin D deficient? But as technology to measure for vitamin D became affordable, more studies were conducted. According to Dr. Michael Holick, who is one of the leading vitamin D researchers, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 32% of adults and children in the US were vitamin D deficient. That’s a pretty high number; so for that reason alone, it’s important that you look for signs of vitamin D deficiency.

With more research being conducted, Holick believes that about 50% of the general population may be at risk of vitamin D deficiency.
The only way to know for sure if you are vitamin D deficient is by a blood test. But the signs and symptoms that come along with this deficiency could be helpful as well.

There are certain people who are more at risk for developing a vitamin D deficiency. These people include the elderly, those who have milk allergies, those who have darker skin, or those who follow a vegan diet. Symptoms associated with vitamin D deficiency include an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, asthma in children, cognitive impairment in seniors, and more. It is extremely important to get a sufficient amount of vitamin D in order to avoid these health risks. If you are not exposed to the sun very often and have a strict diet which doesn’t incorporate many foods which are rich in vitamin D, it may be time to start talking to your doctor about the best types of supplements you should be taking for vitamin D, and how many or how often you should be taking them.

It should be noted that there are many different harmful effects of over exposure to the sun. Overexposure to the sun can result in sunburn, premature aging of the skin, skin cancer, and skin damage. Did you know that over 90 per cent of skin cancers are caused by sun exposure? This is why scientists are often debating about the best ways to get Vitamin D. Although vitamin D comes from the sun, being in the sun too long can pose all sorts of other dangerous health issues and risks which can lead to cancer. Over exposure to the sun allows damaging and harmful UV rays to reach the inner skin layers of a person’s body. This causes sunburn, and can even kill or damage skin cells, possibly developing into cancer. Although a small amount of UV exposure is good for us (because it creates vitamin D), too much sun exposure can lead to early aging, skin cancer, a lowered immune system, and more. This is why doctors suggest eating a diet that has foods which are rich in Vitamin D. That being said, not many foods have vitamin D in them, which is why vitamin D supplements are becoming increasingly popular. Speak to your doctor today about the best ways you can increase your levels of vitamin D. Your doctor will likely suggest taking a vitamin D supplement.

Vitamin D | Vitamin D Foods | Vitamin D Deficiency Symptoms

One of my favourite notifications is your comments and as you may already know more often than not I’ll get back to you with a reply and heart. If you’d like more information on any of the questions I’ve answered or have a question, then let me know so I can try and either dedicate a video to it or get back to you in next months responding to your comments.

VITAMIN D:
Vitamin D helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body.

These nutrients are needed to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy.

A lack of vitamin D can lead to bone deformities such as rickets in children, and bone pain caused by a condition called osteomalacia in adults.

For more information about Vitamin D – https://www.bda.uk.com/resource/vitamin-d.html

VITAMIN D AND SUNSHINE:
Unfortunately, the amount of Vitamin D your skin can make from sunlight varies a lot. It depends on your skin tone and how long you spend in the sun. Therefore I do not recommend that this is the only way you get Vitamin D.

Remember, UVB rays in sunlight cause skin damage and skin cancer – so do not depend on the sun for your Vitamin D – it is simply not worth it!

Sunscreen is really important and if you’re ever unsure about which sunscreen to wear and the science behind it the good news is I have a video on this already – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lf5vsdcJMzQ

VITAMIN D FOODS:
Your next best source of Vitamin D is food. Foods high in Vitamin D include egg yolks and oily fish like salmon. Here’s a really useful page with a good list of Vitamin D foods – https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminD-HealthProfessional/
Let me know what you find in the comments below!

You might have heard of foods “fortified with Vitamin D” – this means Vitamin D has been added to the food during the manufacturing process . Fortified foods include cereals, fat spreads and non-dairy milks.

In the UK, cows’ milk is generally not a good source of vitamin D because it is not fortified, as it is in some other countries.

Here’s a fun fact for you: You can now get super mushrooms that have been treated with UVB rays to make them high in vitamin D! Tomatoes, potatoes and peppers claim to be high in Vitamin D but sadly that’s not true.

VITAMIN D DEFFIECNY SYMPTOMS:
Symptoms of a Vitamin D deficiency include feeling tired and weak. You might also experience muscle and joint or bone pains.

Vitamin D deficiency in children causes rickets – also known as soft or bendy bones, and in adults this is known as osteomalacia. For more information on this – https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/rickets-and-osteomalacia/

PEOPLE AT RISK OF VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY:
As mentioned in the video some people will not get enough vitamin D from sunlight because they have very little or no sunshine exposure.

The Department of Health and Social Care recommends that you take a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D throughout the year if you:

• Are not often outdoors – for example, if you’re frail or housebound
• Are in an institution like a care home
• Usually wear clothes that cover up most of your skin when outdoors
• If you have dark skin – for example you have an African, African-Caribbean or south Asian background – you may also not get enough vitamin D from sunlight.

You should consider taking a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D throughout the year.

Vitamin D Deficiency | Introduction, Absorption & Metabolism, Purpose of Vit D, Causes of Deficiency

Vitamin D Deficiency | Introduction, Absorption & Metabolism, Purpose of Vitamin D, Causes of Deficiency

Vitamin D Deficiency is a very common worldwide condition, involving inadequate levels of vitamin D. Vitamin D refers to a number of fat soluble vitamins that are garnered from dietary sources or through endogenous synthesis. Vitamin D is absorbed in the gastrointestinal system and is also synthesized in the skin from cholesterol precursors. In this lesson, we discuss these topics in more detail, including why we need vitamin D (ex. calcium homeostasis), and a variety of causes of vitamin D deficiency.

This lesson is part 1 in a series on Vitamin D deficiency. In the next lesson, we discuss the signs and symptoms of vitamin D deficiency, along with methods of diagnosing and ways of treating Vitamin D deficiency.

Note: I’m not entirely satisfied with this lesson, so I may delete this and reupload another version of it. Let me know what you think of it 🙂
